Forces

Forces Pt.1 - Idea

I've been wanting to make a physics based AV instrument for a while and finally landed on this pinball-inspired concept.

Forces Pt.1 - Setup

This AV instrument includes:

  • 11 note floor / sequencer where the position of the balls determines the activated notes

  • Tilt control of the floor

  • Triggerable arpeggiator

  • Center obstacle snare and hats

  • Bumpers on the edge and rimshot

  • Light control on the kick

  • Multiple buttons to control bass notes and attractors

  • Full scene rotation to transition to other segments of the song

Forces Pt.2 - Idea

Here's another preview from "Forces" along with a second recording where I play through the animations slowly.

This section doesn't use physics like Pt.1... but is a bank of different pinball-inspired animations that can be independently triggered by hitting the drum in different areas.

All of these animations were built with certain rhythms in mind and can be triggered at different times to create varying patterns.

Forces Pt.2 - Setup

This AV instrument includes:

  • 4 main animation paths, each with independent: Activate Target, Launch, Achieve / Miss goal animations

  • 11 note floor / sequencer where the position of the balls determines the activated notes

  • Triggerable arpeggiator

  • Target Activators and secondary animations on the BT-1, center, edge, and rim

  • Launcher on the rimshot

  • Light control on the kick

  • Snare / hats on the rim

  • Multiple buttons to control bass notes and the activated path

  • Full scene rotation to transition to other segments of the song

All performed in real-time. Built using Notch, Sensory Percussion, Ableton, TouchDesigner, Launch Control, and lots of coffee / whiskey
